Following our successful fundraisers with the Minnesota Twins, our Treasurer published a Letter to the Editor in today's News-Press. Read on!

Twins a class act

Most of the year and especially during spring training all the attention (and the money from Lee County government) is focused on the Boston Red Sox.

But, there's another team in town, the Minnesota Twins, and they are without a doubt a first-class act that deserves much more attention and support from the public as well as our elected officials.

I am the treasurer of a still small start-up charity, The Ladybug Project. We approached the Twins organization in January of 2011 to ask if there was any way they would support our work with communities in Africa, especially in Equatorial Guinea and Madagascar.Within a couple of weeks, Phillip Busch, the assistant to the food and beverage director, promised us a donation of unused merchandise, such as baseball hats and jerseys from the Fort Myers Miracle.

Plus he offered us a chance to work concession stands during spring training games to raise funds for our charity, which we did. Not only did we raise close to $1,000 but we also had a great time meeting and working with some wonderful people.

Our special thanks go to "Gentleman Jim" from concession stand A, who stayed cool even when things got crazy and it seemed like there was no way we could handle all those customers, and, of course to the food and beverage director, Nick Bilski, and his assistant Phillip Busch. The way they help us and other charities really shows what a class act the Minnesota Twins organization is.
