The Ladybug Project Inc.

Last night marked the first ever Ladybug Project photography exhibit! Hosted by the wonderful Gus Harper in his art studio (Los Angeles, CA), we not only provided live music entertainment, light snacks, and hosted many attendees...but we also had the wonderful chance to showcase work inspired by Ugandan missionaries!

Among attendance were the Director of the UCLA African Studies program as well as the radio host of an LA-based African radio show.

The event was organized by actress and Ladybug Project volunteer Lindsay Shelton and The Ladybug Project photography was hand-picked and prepared for viewing by our volunteer, Lauren Reuter, with the intention of showing, "The Real Africa." In recent months, the world has been bombarded with messages of the World Cup and life in Africa; this exhibit intended to show clarity to these ideas.

The final exhibit included eighteen limited edition prints, three of which were swooped up before the night was even close to ending.

Prints can be purchased (including custom framing) for $125-150 per picture. Discounts may be made upon personal consultation.

We are happy to announce a HUGE step in the future of The Ladybug Project - the first official meeting of our Board of Directors! it took place last night and over three hours we set not only the bylaws and other legal frameworks of the organization, but we clarified our mission statement, and created the foundation for The Ladybug Project future. We all feel very, very confident that this meeting, the first of many, will help shape The Ladybug Project into an organization that is open, friendly, working to create change, and importantly: accountable.

Thanks to our first "Buy a Beer, Buy a Desk" campaign, we were able to gift sixty desks to a high school in Diego Suarez, in Madagascar! For information on this initiative, please click here.

Over the past three weeks and with the help of Ismael Leandre, Kim Reuter negotiated with local carpenters to build the desks and have them delivered. When the d-day finally arrived today, Michelle and Lou Jones (two of our excellent volunteers) were there to document all of the action! Hailing from Norway and the United Kingdom, respectively, Michelle and Lou worked with Kim in Madagascar and have become excellent advocates for the organization. To see pictures of the delivery, check out our gallery below!

We have exciting news to share! The Ladybug Project has been featured in the FSView & Florida Flambeau newspaper! Not only does the newspaper have an estimated circulation of 25,000, but our Executive Director (Kim Reuter) and our Co-Vice Chair (Micah Burkey) are proud alumni of the very school to which this newspaper belongs.

The article includes an interview with Kim, the story behind The Ladybug Project, as well as thoughts on where our organization might be going in the future.
